Yes, I agree with the information above and will continue my application.
No, I do not agree and will not apply at this time.
1. Please Do not apply if you have pending applications with other shelters or rescues. 2. Please be sure you are legally allowed to have a pet in your home (ie. renters/condos) 3. Please apply if you are the homeowner or lease owner. 4. Please be sure you are comfortable with our Covid spay/neuter policies. 5. Please apply only when you are immediately ready to adopt. Our volunteers need to focus on applicants ready to adopt the coming adoption weekend only. Most adoptions are done within one week’s time. A little bit about Ruff House Rescue’s mission, “We go to the most underserved communities to make the biggest life-saving impact”. Our pets are largely rescued from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, just near the Mexican border. Local animal controls provide no vetting whatsoever, no vaccinations, rabies, wormer, spay, neuter and no medical emergencies. The homeless pets we save will eventually travel approximately 2000 miles with the promise of a permanent, loving home. With that said we want to be sure you and your family are ready to step into this happy and permanent commitment. Our adoption fees represent the costs of rescuing these animals that are truly most in need and should not be compared to the cost of adopting from other rescues or shelters. If you speak to the many happy RHR adopters they will tell you that Ruff House truly rescues the sweetest, most beautiful, and loving, cats, dogs, puppies and kittens, who would be euthanized without our rescue efforts in this region. We certainly don’t take the credit for these amazing animals but we sure are happy they are getting the second chance they deserve. We rescue many small dogs, puppies, medium and large dogs, senior pets and special needs animals. With the overwhelming challenges due to COVID-19 Ruff House along with thousands of other rescues, lost resources for available veterinarians and spay and neuter services so please read our updated spay/neuter policies. We can absolutely adopt out of state as long as the cat or dog is spayed or neutered prior to leaving New York. NY adopters have 30 days to spay or neuter their dog once adopted. This is NYS law. If you are in the five boroughs, Long Island Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts etc. and are interested in adopting any of our dogs we can set up a rescue reduced price to spay or neuter your Ruff House pet at your expense so that you may still take home the dog or cat of your choice. We do not spay or neuter puppies under 4 months. All our kitties are s/n prior to adoption and many, but not all of our dogs are s/n prior to adoption. We know this may be an inconvenience for some however we are happy that most adopters understand the constraints we are under and agree to the process. Ruff House rescues beautiful animals throughout each month of the year. We ask that you check our adoptions tab on our website https://ruffhouserescue.org/, along with our social sites https://www.facebook.com/RuffHouseRescue, https://www.instagram.com/ruffhouserescue/?hl=en, to see our available pets. Please don’t be disappointed if one of the pets you are interested in is adopted. We have new faces available every few weeks and we promise they are worth the wait. Once your application is submitted, we try to give a three day turnaround response by email and phone call. If we do not hear back from you, we will move onto the next application. Please be open to meeting more than one cat or dog that you see on our website. You never know who you’re going to ‘fall in love with’ when you come to our adoption events. These events are hosted throughout Long Island every Saturday and Sunday and one day during the week. Please note who your adoption liaison is so you may contact them with any questions you may have, including our adoption location. Many of our puppies and dogs are located in foster homes and you may be asked to do a meet and greet with the foster. We understand the application process, along with a home visit, may seem daunting but we try very hard to make the process very quick and very pleasant. Our goal is to simply ensure our pets are going to a safe home to the best of our ability. We very much appreciate your application and your patience. We truly hope you will become part of the Ruff House Family, over 10,000 strong and counting!
