CURRENT APPLICATION PROCESSING TIME IS USUALLY 3-5 BUSINESS DAYS. WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROCESS INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS. PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL QUESTIONS ARE ANSWERED COMPLETELY. Any missing information or missing attachments including fencing will invalidate application. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE INCLUDED ALL PAST AND PRESENT VETERINARY INFORMATION AND INCLUDED A PHONE NUMBER. We will not be able to add to the application and any missing information may cause your application to be denied due to lack of veterinary history. SOME VETS WILL NOT RELEASE INFORMATION WITHOUT CONSENT, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CONTACTED YOUR VET TO GIVE PERMISSION. TO TRY AND KEEP PROCESSING TIMES SHORTER WE WILL NOT CONTINUE TO PROCESS APPLICATIONS IF INCOMPLETE OR IF REFERENCES ARE NOT REACHABLE.

Adoption Process

PLEASE READ BEFORE COMPLETING APPLICATION. You must be 21 years of age to apply to adopt a pet. This application is a pre-approval application, it is the first step in the adoption process. We are a private rescue and our adoption process is an in-depth process that may include; landlord consent, proof of home-ownership, 2 personal references, a veterinary reference and in rare cases a home visit. We do require that all members of the home including children and pets in the home meet the dog before adoption is finalized. We will also need proof of address and a copy of a valid ID. It is our goal to be thorough to make sure adopters are knowledgeable, capable, and willing to accept the moral, physical, and financial responsibilities of owning a pet. We also want to make sure your home will offer the best environment for the life of the pet. Filling out this application does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt through our rescue. We will notify you via email if we have further questions or have reached a decision. The adoption fee includes: spay or neuter procedure, initial vaccinations, microchip*, preventative flea treatment and dewormer. Adoption fees are nonrefundable and if for any reason you do not wish to keep the pet you adopted you MUST bring it back to Sunny Sky's Animal Rescue- and no other shelter. This is not negotiable! Animals adopted from our shelter are not to be given as gifts, cannot be sold, traded or given away to another person or facility. Per this contract, you will be fined $500 if the pet you adopt from our shelter is sold, traded or given away. This is in conjunction with any and all remedies available to us as outlined in the adoption packet. We are a no-kill shelter and cannot ensure if the animal is given away it will not be euthanized. To ensure that our animals never end up in a kill shelter, Sunny Sky's will be listed with the microchip company for the life of the animal. If your adopted pet is recovered by us, we will make every effort to contact you using the information provided on this application. If your information changes (address, phone number) please make sure to notify the shelter with updates. We do not keep medical records of adopted pets on site. You will be responsible for keeping the medical file of your newly adopted pet safe and in the event new copies are needed there will be a charge of $25. This is a generic pre-screen to adopt a dog from Sunny Sky's Animal Rescue & Hospital. This application is not based on a specific animal, volunteers will help you find a match that is environment, age and energy level appropriate. Average time to process applications is 3-5 business days. Only 2 attempts will be made to contact references so please call your vet and personal references. Double check your phone numbers and email addresses, any error can lead to missed communications. Please include pictures of your fencing if applicable. For proof you own your home you can attach a screenshot of the Assessor website information for your county or property tax stub with account information covered (WE ONLY NEED TO SEE THE NAME AND ADDRESS, this applies to home ownership and proof of address as well). Thank you for filling out our preliminary application. This will allow us to pre-screen potential adopters and help us match pets with families. You can help speed up the process by calling your references (both vet and personal) to let them know we will be calling them to ask a few questions, please double check you have included phone numbers for both your vet and personal reference. Unfortunately we will only be able to make 2 attempts to call your references, if we are unable to reach them your application will not be processed and you will have to resubmit your application. If you would like to add hours for your reference availability, please do so. Please make sure if you rent that you have included a phone number for your landlord. This process can take one week.
