He has a medium energy level 5. He really like chew toys and playing 6. He is not bonded with any other fur siblings 7. He does not like cats and no little dogs. Proper and slow intros to new things are best. Meet Darwin! This boy was impounded at the city shelter following an incident when he was running loose and reportedly ran up behind someone doing yard work and bit them (classic butt biter move). The city deemed him a potentially dangerous dog (PDD). Sadly no owner ever came forward to reclaim him and that awful PDD label meant he isn't allowed to be adopted and must leave the city so we scooped up this hunkachunk boy at the last minute - He sat on the euthanasia list for a full month with no one ever coming to save him. Day in and day out he sat quietly in his cell, always listening and just chilling as the busy shelter buzzed around him. Friday the 13th was supposed to be his last day on earth but we couldn't let that happen. Darwin was adopted once from us but was a bit unfriendly towards the visiting children so it was determined it wasn't the best fir for him. Darwin said his current fosters had this to say about him: They say that I am AWESOME! I heard them say they are "smitten with me and that I've been an excellent house guest. Here's what else they have to say: 1. D is Potty Trained - no accidents in the house at all. He's picked up our morning breakfast, evening dinner, and night bedtime routines very quickly. 2. He's learning that the crate isn't so bad. Mom asks me if I'll go into "D's crib - she motions me inside and that's that. I get a cookie once inside, so that helps. I'm only in my crib when my foster siblings are passing through my room to the yard or while my parents are gone. At night I sleep in my room on my pillow oh so quietly. 3. D rides PERFECTLY in a car. Honestly, we aren't sure what to do with no whining or back and forth as we drive. 4. This boy LOVES food! He is VERY food motivated. He will sit perfectly and take the food from your hand very gently. He eats off a fork! PUP CUPS... those things are magical! 5. D loves to be outside - doing fence perimeter checks (6-foot, wood privacy). He does the cutest hoppy bounce kind of thing when he's running the fence. He also enjoys sunbathing on the deck and walks - doing well on his leash. 6. He is happy to snuggle into a pillow. There will be beautiful little snores in no time. 7. This is a BIG one. D is VERY protective of his house and people. We had a visitor whom our kids love - especially Alumni Duke (also a bully). The visitor has a bully girl at home as well, so he's familiar with the breed. D felt he got too close to Dad, he got a hold of his pant leg and pulled him away. Our visitor was definitely scared and surprised, as was Dad, but he was not hurt. This showed us that D does "control his response. Our visitor was wearing a hat, overalls, approximately 5'9 in height just because everything is useful information. 8. Silly Amazon delivery driver actually rang the doorbell... the nerve of him! D can get hyper focused on protecting - Mom has the "EH thing she does, Dad whistles - both get my attention. A marine air horn may have been used to break my focus too. 9. D shares the lower level of the home with 3 male foster siblings. They have "met at the baby gate many times and there hasn't been a single lip snarl, grumble or a back full of hair standing on end. 10. OH! The best thing - D offered us tummy time! Day four of being our guest and he was comfortable enough to roll over and let us rub that belly! 11. He's begun to explore getting on furniture and chew toys. 12. D has not shown himself to be a big snuggler. He will get close to giving you a kiss but then thinks better of it. (Note from foster Mom - this part isn't cool! I'm waiting for that first kiss, it will come, I have hope!) 13. We've done the bath thing. He was nervous at first but realized there was lots of rubs involved and warmed up to the idea. Oh... and cookies. There were cookies involved - that makes anything better. We haven't done a nail trim yet, so can't report on that. 14. Additional info to know... no cats, kids twelve and older preferred, a canine girlfriend would be ok, vaccinations are up to date - with monthly preventatives for heartworm and fleas/ticks, and there won't be any babies - he's been neutered. I warned you all this was going to be a long one! Foster Dad and Mom think I'm the best and want me to live my very best life in my FUREVER home - that means telling you ALL about me. If you think I sound like just the guy for you, please go to: www.alwaysandfurever.org/forms - the adoption staff will respond to you as quickly as they can. Thanks for reading all about me!
